A photo-fresco starts as a photographic image, where the image is etched into a copper plate and inked up, or where pigment is laid down directly on some substrate.

Similar in concept to traditional slaked-lime frescos, the pigment is then applied ‘affresco’ into the wet plaster.  

The plaster absorbs the pigment to produce the final piece.
